After a catastrophic car crash in which all her fellow passengers are killed, Becky Reynalds, a typical albeit privileged high school senior, begins perceiving the voice of a young girl whom nobody but she can hear. The accident and resulting near-death experience also gifts her with the uncanny ability to sketch and paint like a master artist. The tragedy seems to have opened a mediumistic doorway in Becky, a doorway that she cannot close, even if she wanted to.
